2018 Women's Club Worlds in numbers: Chinese players dominate scoring

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 10, 2018 - As the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship wound down over the weekend in Shaoxing, for the third time in the history of the competition (since the introduction of the rally scoring system), Zhu Ting emerged top scorer, amassing 98 points for VakifBank Istanbul in their five matches.

The 24-year-old outside hitter tops the list for the third time, after 2013 in Zurich for Guangdong Evergrande and 2016 in Manila also for VakifBank, but came five points short of her own all-time record of 103. She is the only player to appear more than once in the all-time list.


Liu Yanhan of Zhejiang Women's Volleyball Club was the second highest scorer of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship behind Zhu Ting.

But it was another Chinese outside hitter, 25-year-old Liu Yanhan, who did get in the record books after scoring 34 points for hosts Zhejiang Women's Volleyball Club against France's Volero Le Cannet.

She becomes the seventh person in the history of the Women's Club World Championship to make the list of players who have scored 30 points or more in a single match and ties the all-time record of Russia's Ekaterina Gamova for Dinamo Kazan against Brazil's Sesi Sao Paulo from 2014.

Brazil's Natalia Pereira with 31 points for Belo Horizonte's Minas Tenis Clube against Eczacibasi was the only other player to make the list this year.



In individual skills, Serbia's Tijana Boskovic may have sat out the bronze medal match, but overall she registered 69 kills in 132 swings for a 52.27% efficiency and topped the best attackers list for the second year in a row. Last year in Kobe the 21-year-old opposite of Eczacibasi had finished the tournament on a 52.00% efficiency (78/150).

However, the record to beat in attacking remains 56.94% (41/72) held by Brazil's Thaisa Menezes for Sollys Nestle Osasco since 2012 in Doha.

In blocking at Shaoxing it was Zhejiang's Yang Hanyu who shone above the rest with 1.14 stuffs per set (24 in absolute numbers from five matches). This remains short of the all-time best held from last year by Croatia's Maja Poljak for Dinamo Moscow with an average of 1.56 stuffs per set (28 in five matches).

And for the first time in the history of the competition two players shared pole position in the best servers category: Kazakhstan's Sana Anarkulova for Altay Volleyball Club and Turkey's Gamze Alikaya for Eczacibasi each served seven aces in five matches for an identical average of .39 per set.

The all-time serving record, however, still belongs to Turkey's Bahar Toksoy who served eight aces in four matches in 2012 in Doha for VakifBank - an average of .67 per set.
