Praia Clube's Fe Garay, Carol, Nicole Fawcett celebrate in their match against Supreme Chonburi

Shaoxing, China, December 4, 2018 – Ana Carolina Da Silva and Fernanda Rodrigues led Brazil’s Praia Clube in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship opener with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-14) win over Thailand’s Supreme Chonburi.

Carol and Fe Garay netted 13 points apiece to lead the Brazilian club in scoring, while Thai stars Pleumjit Thinkaow and Wilavan Apinyapong led their side with 12 and nine points, respectively.

Praia Clube setter Carli Lloyd got her team-mates involved on offence, dishing out excellent sets to Nicole Fawcett and Fabiana Claudino, who chipped in 12 and 10 points to the winning cause.

Praia Clube setter Carli Lloyd made three blocks to help her team in their 3-0 win over Supreme Chonburi.

Praia Clube got off to a hot start, while Supreme Chonburi struggled to get their offence going without their main setter Soraya Phomla. Thai middle blocker Pleumjit took charge and led her team to cut down the lead to within one point at 23-22, but the Brazilian club managed to earn the last two points to seal the opening set at 25-22.

Carol and Fawcett then got into a scoring rhythm, making Praia Club more difficult to counter on offence in the second and third sets. Their net defence was also strengthened with Carol and Lloyd taking care of more than half of their team's 10 blocks in the match.
