Shaoxing, China, December 6, 2018 – At 37 years of age, Caroline Gattaz is Minas Tenis Clube’s oldest player, but the middle blocker’s commitment to excellence is certainly second to none.

Carol Gattaz led Minas Tenis Clube to a 3-2 victory in their first match against Volero Le Cannet in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.

Her grit and impeccable timing help Carol Gattaz deliver on her attacks and get up high to mount blocks against her opponents. And her passion for volleyball is as high as when she first started as a young player.

“The passion has always been the same for me,” Carol Gattaz said. “I love volleyball and I love playing. Each year I make a new goal for myself.”

The Sao Paulo native became a member of the Brazilian women’s national team in 2003. After her stint in the national team, she played for various clubs and has been with Minas since 2014.

“The last time I played for the national team was in 2013 at the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup in Japan,” Carol Gattaz recalled. “And surprisingly, this is just my first time to be in the Women’s Club World Championship.”

Her long career in volleyball has brought her the most important thing for an athlete – experience.

“Experience is everything. I just want to continue to play at a high level. It’s difficult for me to play because of my age but my experience makes me feel comfortable inside the court. I am very happy to still be playing.

“I have more experience now than before. Volleyball is much stronger now. The players are taller, teams are better tactically – these are the changes from the time I started.”

Carol Gattaz leads as captain of the Minas Tenis Club in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.

For now, she will play her role as captain of the team – inspire her teammates to play their best.

“Our team is improving game after game. We’re going to prepare in the best way to reach the finals and to compete against the strong teams. It’s going to be hard, but if we do our best then we can make something great.”
