Minas Tenis Clube players celebrate in their game against Volero Le Cannet in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship
Shaoxing, China, December 4, 2018 – Minas Tenis Clube coach Stefano Lavarini pointed out that his young players played better in their 3-2 encounter with Volero Le Cannet in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship on Tuesday.
Minas Tenis Clube coach Stefano Lavarini: “I was not satisfied with my team’s performance, we played badly in this match. It’s always difficult to play the first match of the competition.
“I expected better performance from my team because we have more experience than our opponent. Sometimes experience can be a liability when you play your first match. The experienced players know how to start well and they know how important it is to win the first match, but sometimes the younger players have it easier because they are more relaxed and play without any pressure.”
Minas Tenis Clube player Natalia Pereira: “It was a difficult first game. We think we can do better than we did today. What’s important is the victory, taking two points. We have to play better tomorrow.”
Volero Le Cannet coach Avital Selinger: Most of the time we didn’t know what to expect, except that we will be playing the best teams in the world. For us to play so close and at times appear to be better than our opponent, that’s what makes me so proud of my team.”
Volero Le Cannet captain Laure Unternahrer: “We did a good job. It’s a pity we lost in the tie-break. It’s like a few balls that we have to catch. For a first game it was good and for sure we want more. Today’s game gave us confidence for the next game. We just need to keep fighting and be a team like we are right now.”
