Team profile

Volero Le Cannet (FRA)

Founded in 1968 and establishing a volleyball department in 1994, France's Volleyball Le Cannet-Rocheville merged with Switzerland's Volero Zurich and as of 2018 goes by the name Volero Le Cannet. They make their debut this season in the 2018 FIVB Club World Championship.
Le Cannet won the French Cup 2015 and went on to claim the Supercup of the same year. They have also been runners-up in the Cup on two other occasions, in 2008 and 2011. But the French League title still eludes them, after finishing three times in third place (2009, 2010 and 2011) and twice runners-up (to RC Cannes in 2015 and to ASPTT Mulhouse in 2017). Last season Le Cannet finished 5th in the Regular Season and were later knocked out by Saint-Raphael VB in the quarterfinals of the Playoffs.
In 2008 Le Cannet were runners-up to Italy's Scavolini Pesaro in the European CEV Cup, after losing in straight sets in the final.
Last year Le Cannet were knocked out of the European Champions League after losing both their matches in the opening round. This year they will be competing in the third-tier European club competition, the 2018-19 Challenge Cup.

Coach

Avital Selinger

Avital Selinger

Avital Selinger replaced Dragutin Baltic as the head coach of Volero Zurich in April 2015. The 56-year-old Israel-born Dutchman took over a Zurich team that had not lost in more than 100 matches in domestic competitions, and he extended that streak to lead the team to their sixth successive Swiss national league title. He has been head coach of two teams he could face in Zurich – Dinamo Krasnodar and Hisamitsu Springs. As a player, Selinger won two European championship bronze medals in 1989 and 1991, and a silver as part of the 1992 Olympic Dutch team coached by his father Arie.
